July 5th–Naples to Capri

Today we were off on another adventure! Up to check out straight away and then on to buy a ticket to the Capri ferry. The trip to Capri wasn’t exactly exciting – the fogged up window meant I spent most of my time reading my book (A Game of Thrones incidentally, ooooh I’m being trendy).

We arrived in Capri and we were quickly herded into the boat along the pier – trip around the island on a boat you say? Why not? We dumped out bags at the local ‘porter’ (2 Euro for the day, we had everything crossed they’d still be there when we got back!) and then jumped on the boat. This trip was a lovely way to start off the island – we were right up the front of the boat, with the sun shining, the wind in our hair and the very impressive cliffs and blue waters that make Capri famous.

Eventually we arrived at the famous ‘Blue Grotto’ – to be told there was an hour and a half wait. This seemed super dodgy, it would have been nice to know that before we got on the boat. Most of the passengers were disgruntled but what could we do – back to port!

Luckily our baggage was still there, we grabbed the bags and began a rather epic journey up to Anacapri via bus (with lots of waiting in the line in the heat). I turned into zombie Jess at this point and was very glad to finally arrive at our neat little hotel.

It was around 2pm at his point – time for a quick drink by the pool and then back out into the sun again…. this time to walk through central Capri and then down to the smaller port. This was lovely, via a very pretty garden and rather delicious orange slushy store. Down the bottom we sat again for a while, drinking cool water and watching the throngs of people bathe in the ocean (the water really is something special here).

THEN back to the hotel again, this time for around two hours of relaxing, swimming and book reading before freshening up for dinner. Dinner was at a place that Andy highly enjoyed last year he was here – it was a bit of a walk away so off we set. The walk there was very pleasant, with views of the ocean, vineyards and a variety of flowers. On arrival, we were encouraged by the waiter to take a glass of Prosecco and continue just a little bit further, to check out the view point nearby.

I don’t think I will be able to adequately describe just how beautiful experience this was. The cliffs, the never ending oceans, the gulls flying and calling, the lighthouse, the setting sun – I had a little ‘happy moment’’, feeling so very blessed to be there with that view with Andy and a glass of wine in hand. Andy went a bit nuts running left right and centre trying to capture it all on camera! (check out the photos top right)

Back to dinner afterwards, with the restaurant’s view of the sun setting over the vineyards and ocean – sublime. I ordered a Caprese Salad, Ravioli and then a Semifreddo (washed down with more Prosecco and Rose). It was a beautiful experience and I recommend that everyone stay a night in Capri, just so they can experience that view and sunset.

Back to the hotel for a relatively early night, on to a new place again tomorrow!
