July 4th–London to Naples

Today won’t be the most exciting blog! Another lazy morning ensued at the hostel, packing and checking out. We had a flight in the afternoon and really no plans at all for the morning.

In the end we decided to head to the British Museum, via an impromptu and rather delicious English Breakfast at a cafe in Russel Square. I very much enjoyed sitting in that park at 11am sipping my cup of tea! Then onwards to the Museum – I have decided I am not a very good museum goer, wandering around aimlessly rather than reading all the little plaques. As such, we were through the building relatively quickly – at one point we did attempt to go on a free Africa tour which turned out to be boooooring…. so we ran away when the tour guide’s back was turned, oops.

Back to the hostel to check out, then a 15 minute tube, a 50 minute train, a 2 hour flight and another bus – suddenly it was 9pm and we were in Naples! Our time here is very short, we stay here tonight and leave tomorrow morning. As such, we dumped our bags in our room and headed out to find dinner. This of course could only be one thing – pizza! This was really lovely, sitting with Italian wine and an enormous freshly made wooden oven margarita pizza. And the pizza really was so delicious.

After dinner we meandered slowly back to the hostel with a Gelato in hand. This city really is quite dirty and run down – there are beautiful fountains covered by graffiti, cigarette butts everywhere. I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience but don’t feel that sad spending such a short time here. I AM enjoying being in a slightly more ‘foreign’ country though, a different language, completely different architecture – travelling through America and England has kept us in the ‘safe’ zone…. now things get really interesting!

Back to our hostel just after midnight – having slept in different shared dorms the three nights in London it is luxury to be back in a double bed and not have to shove all my things in a locked cupboard every night. No more dorm rooms now for over a week!!
