The beginning.

Things I have forgotten: Bathers.

Today’s trip started with losing Kelly. After not really agreeing on a meeting place or time there was a mini panic and deep breathing on my behalf when Kelly wasn’t where Kelly was meant to be. Turns out it just took her over an hour to check in. We eventually met in the customs line, with delirious happiness.

Then I thought I’d left my camera at home. Then I found it in my bag.

Then I decided to stress a little less.

The long flight was, you know, a long flight. Turns out we didn’t get a window seat, so we stared at the seats in front of us whilst everyone else stared at Ayers Rock. Breakfast was huge, the free wine was much enjoyed. I made my way through Chocolat and Toast, Kelly made her way through Prom and Harry Potter. Then there was much sleeping at 2pm in the afternoon, right in the middle of the family section of the plane, whilst naked children ran up and down the aisle.

And then, Kuala Lumpur Airport (we recognised the Malaysian smell straight away). Turns out we’d misread our itinerary and had a three hour wait instead of the expected one hour. Damn. Oh well, there was consumption of very authentically Malaysian Hershey Kisses (or Herssy Kishes)… and three gate changes that eventually took us back to the gate we’d started in.

Flight to Bangkok = meh. Apart from the life-flashing-before-my-eyes turbulence and the biggest crash bang landing I’ve ever felt.

Customs, money, luggage – check. Hour long transfer to the hotel through the pouring rain – check. Somehow managing to stay conscious – check.

So tired. But this hotel woke us up! I don’t usually go anywhere without thoroughly researching where I am going to stay. This hotel was booked through our tour and I hadn’t even googled it. Kelly and I expected a rather low budget place but the hotel is so SHINY! They carried our bags from the car all the way up to our rooms. And they gave us a free bottle of water each. FREE WATER!

Our tour starts at 6pm tomorrow and Kelly and I have made no effort to think about what we are going to do before hand. Nothing like winging it in a foreign city!
